i am considering vinyl wrapping, should be a pretty low risk adventure.
really highlights that dent (between the two greys)
near to far: Black Carbon / Slate Grey / Elephant Grey / Pearl White / White / Rosso Corsa Red / Chrome Red
I am currently thinking Black carbon for roof and accent pieces (including trunk lettering), amd leaning towards the extreme of chrome red, or the ever changing pearl white, or the reasonable slate grey for the body.
and a blue stainless steel sample I have already rejected for being to hard to lay down well

I think it looks really good like that. Looks like you support a multitude of northern European countries.

I like the chrome red, it has a depth to it that the other wraps don’t seem to match, or you could go really crazy and do brushed steel.

except Sweden, (poor Sweden...)

I’m assuming you’d have it done professionally..? Any idea how wrapping a car with minor body damage turns out?

Carbon the whole thing. Subaru bros will be amazed, tell them it’s JDM and you brought it back on a sail boat all by yourself.

all of them.

funny you say that, a blue brushed steel was my first pick but i decided against it because apparently looks bad if the lines are not alligned perfectly, which feels outside my amateur skills

Only one thing for it then:
Woodgrain.

nope, I am solid DIY.
I’ve youtubed it... how hard can it be? :P
it certainly hides some things, but I will be repairing and primering all.my small dents, rust, and the more severe scratches prior to laying on the vinyl

Buy good vinyl, otherwise removing it will cost as much as a paint job. Seriously. 3M as i recall is like the bottom you should consider.

Go with the hail-proof one.
Wait...

None of those are World Rally Blue...

I’d go with the pearlescent white, the chrome red might be too much

Ooh, I’ve had vinyl wrapping on my radar. A friend of a friend wrapped his car and it didn’t look bad at all except for some odd stretch spots. Would love to see a post on total cost and size requirements and such once you finish.

OMG thank you for this. I will one day own an El Camino with a woodgrain wrap.

Well I’d knock of the white and grey one’s off the bat. If you’re gonna go through the trouble of wrapping, do something interesting. The beauty of it is if it looks like shit, you drive it around a few weeks to get some laughs then tear it off.

Sounds like a fun project. A friend of mine was just as DIY ready and decided to do his AE86 Corolla in his garage over a winter. He said it basically would have been less work and the same cost to just paint the car but he didn’t regret doing it. It looked great in the end.

Those look like color samples for designing an Audi retro livery.

I feel like if you’re going to go through the trouble of wrapping the car, it should be in color that isn’t from the basic black-gray-white-red palette that basically every automaker currently uses.

This is just amazing...

I really want to wrap my Abarth. In yellow. Chrome yellow.
Where did you get samples from?

entirely possible that it will be a huge pain, and not be cheaper than real paint. I just want to try new things.

thats my current leaning, having now seen them in the sun. the chrome red would be certainly eye catching, but may just be too much for me.

chrome yellow?

Before wrapping make sure to stop the typical rear quarter rust. It usually starts when the paint on the front most tab for the rear bumper bends and cracks the paint. From there it is hard to know you have a problem until it breaks through to the front. The vinyl will do a great job of hiding it until it is too late.

I am not a fan of carbon wraps. Do black, not black carbon, for the accents. Achieves the same look without trying to pretend you have carbon fiber parts.
I like that blue, could you do that type of color in a not stainless style?

That just looks like shiny piss.

I hate you for that image....

waaaay ahead of you. I’ve already done the preventative work, and wouldn’t ya know it, there WAS a little bit of rust starting in those rear wheel wells. typical subaru is typical

I really really like the Slate Gray!!!

Just for the record vinyl hides next to nothing... maybe some small scratches. I wrapped the roof on my Civic because the clear coat started failing (as it eventually does on most Honda’s) and you can easily see the spot where the clear coat failed under the vinyl.
Also be forewarned, It will be a much larger pain in the ass to install than you expect... I guarantee it.

It’s not painfully obvious in person... but if you look closely it’s definitely not hiding much.

oh, but I am expecting a hige pain the arse :)

Could you post an update on how this process goes? I’m considering ways to protect the paint on my old LX.
